ATL HIP HOP DAY

NO Fear: COVID-19 Vaccine Readiness Townhall Meeting

Tonight at 7 pm EST Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be holding the Southern Regional Townhall to discuss Vaccine Readiness in our community. The Townhall meeting will be moderated by Dr. Kimberly Manning, Professor of Medicine at Emory University Department of Medicine. Panelists include Shannon Anderson, President of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students Collegiate at the University of Alabama, Dr. Edith Smith Rayford of the National Medical Association, Dr. Jasmine Ward Founder of Black Ladies in Public Health, Joynetta Bell Kelly, Public Health Analyst Centers for the Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention, and last but not least, Saqar Ahhah Ahershu Co-Founder of the Atlanta Hip Hop Day Festival (thats me!)

The purpose of the Townhall is to address the fear (False Evidence Appearing Real) in our community when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s really sad because we are a community that has been lied to countless times, so when real solutions present themselves that can and will help us there is an air of mistrust. Many of us also don’t do the necessary research when it comes to health, nor how to take preventative measures to stop the spreading of a virus such as COVID-19

Just look at the statistics, they are staggering, according to the CDC Black, Hispanic and Native Americans are dying from covid at nearly three times the rate of white Americans:

COVID 19 has struck the Hip Hop culture mercilessly leading the loss of artists like:

  • Fred Da Godson from Bronx NY known for his features artists like Jadakiss and appearances on the FUNK FLEX Show
  • UK Rapper, Rapper Ty, who rose to fame in 2001 with his debut album Awkward also featuring artists like De La Soul and more

There has also been a series of artists who also contracted COVID-19:

  • Jerimih
  • Chance The Rapper
  • Slim Thug
  • Keisha Cole
  • Scarface
  • Doja Cat
  • Westside Gunn of Griselda
  • DJ Jazzy Jeff had it two times
  • Ashanti
  • Trey Songs
  • DJ Black N Mild
  • DJ Webstar

We ask that you join the zoom call, or watch it live on Facebook. This way you can find out more information and ASK QUESTIONS to help dispel of the misinformation circulating in our community and give you the facts to help fight and prevent this deadly disease.
