Much respect on how GP respects his father. Much respect to Gary Payton’s Dad for being a Dad in his sons life in the 60s, when a lot of men were not. ????????????

Unfortunately, Jim Anderson was unable to sustain the success of the Beavers basketball program after Payton’s departure and was let go in 1995. The recruiting pipeline that Ralph Miller had to the Bay Area dried up as those players began to stay home and play at Cal or Stanford.

Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton were some of my favorite basketball players to watch but I didn’t know anything about their personal business growing up. This is my first time hearing about Gary being on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I had to go Google it while watching this excerpt.
